Cancer Facts - Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States, and ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women.
Currently there is no effective means of early detection for ovarian cancer. As a result, ovarian cancer is usually diagnosed in advanced stages and only 50% of women survive longer than five years.
Early symptoms of ovarian cancer are often mild, making ovarian cancer difficult to detect. Some early symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:
An unusual feeling of fullness or discomfort in the pelvic region
Unexplainable indigestion, gas, or bloating that is not relieved with over-the-counter antacids
Pain during sexual intercourse
Abnormal bleeding
Swelling and pain of the abdomen
