Cosmetic Procedures - BREAST LIFT
Breast Lift Overview
Breast lift (or mastopexy) is a surgical procedure to lift and reshape severely sagging breasts. Over the years, breasts lose their shape and firmness from pregnancies, nursing, and the aging process. Breast lift surgery will not permanently lift the breasts; the aging process will eventually cause them to sag again. However, the procedure may temporarily delay the effects of gravity.
Best Candidates for Breast Lift
Breast lift surgery is effective in lifting and reshaping saggy breasts for both smaller and larger breasted patients. However, smaller breasts typically retain their shape longer after a breast lift than larger breasts. This is because the weight of larger breasts works against the changes made during the plastic surgery.
If you plan to have children in the future you may want to postpone cosmetic breast surgery until after pregnancy and after you are done breastfeeding. Pregnancy can stretch the breasts and a breast lift can reduce the volume of the breasts. Both of these factors can counter the benefits of breast lift surgery.
The majority of women who have breast lift surgery are between the ages of 35 and 50.
