What is MammaPrint?

Two of the co-founders of Agendia, Dr. Laura van’t Veer and Prof. dr. René Bernards, cancer scientists from the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, together with their colleagues, have compared the genomic tumor profiles of a large number of women suffering from breast cancer. They identified a set of 70 genes that are crucial in predicting the likelihood of breast cancer recurrence after a woman's initial cancer treatment. 1,2 These findings have been validated in large, international follow-up studies and were used to develop a clinically-validated test called MammaPrint®. 3 In addition, Agendia´s processes have been reviewed and approved by Government regulatory bodies.

Agendia analyzes and determines a patient's risk status based on the gene expression profile of her tumor. A MammaPrint® result describes the likelihood that a breast cancer patient will experience cancerous spread (metastasis) within the next 10 years.
