Cancer - Breast Cancer
What is Lumpectomy (Breast Conserving Therapy)?
Lumpectomy is also known by other names: breast conserving therapy, lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, segmental
mastectomy and quadrantectomy.
Lumpectomy involves removing only the breast lump and some normal tissue
around it. Radiation treatment is often given for about 6 weeks after this
type of surgery. If chemotherapy is going to be used as well, the radiation
may be postponed until the chemo is finished.
